Asia Argento was raised in Rome by a film maker and actor family. Both professions she pursued her own. At nine years of age the actress made her film debut alongside Sergio Citti in Sogni e bisogni. The year 1988 saw her played the lead role in Cristina Comencini's first movie Zoo (1988) and as also being a member of Michele Soavi's cast in The Church (1989). In 1989, she portrayed Nanni Moretti's (also directed) daughter, also directed by Michele Soavi in Red Wood Pigeon. Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido was the film that really launched Asia's professional path. It was her first time moving from roles of a young girl to more mature and complicated roles. Cannes International Film Festival was an enormous success for the film. Trauma was her first film made with her father. Her mother, Daria Nicoledi, was Argento's most beloved actress. The film Trauma she played an orexic looking for the killer of her parents. The Phantom of the Opera marks her third collaboration with her father. The others are Trauma as well as The Stendhal Syndrome. Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato a Nozze demonstrated Asia's intense manner that she exhibited in her acting. In 1993, she portrayed Arianna in Carlo Verdone's Perdiamoci di vista. It was a character so complex that she won the David di Donatello Award as the most outstanding actress. Patrice Chereau directed her in Queen Margot, where she was the main character. She worked again with Michel Piccoli on Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion in 1995, earning her another David di Donatello role as and a Grolla D'oro. Asia started to direct short films in 1994. Two of them were made: Prospettive In 1996, she directed a documentary about her father; and Abel/Asia from 1998. Both focused on the legendary director Abel Ferrara. This latter was presented at the Rome Film Festival. Asia made her debut as a feature-length director with Scarlet Diva (2000). The film featured her as a director. She was also the lead actress and wrote the screenplay. The film released May 2000, both in Italy, and throughout the rest the world. The film won an prize at the Williamsburg Film Festival in Brooklyn, New York. In 2001, after directing a number of music videos and giving birth, she welcomed her first daughter, Anna Lou. In 2002, Asia starred on The Red Siren with Jean Marc Barr, and Rob Cohen's Action thriller, which was directed by Vin Diesel. Asia can also be the creator of several short stories published in many high-end magazines.
